Synopsis
In Sharpe's Gold Major Hogan sends Lieutenant Richard Sharpe to find out what happened to one of his exploring officers, and more importantly the Spanish Gold he has reported to know about.
When Sharpe and his men link up with Major Kearsey, another of Hogan's exploring officers, it becomes clear to Sharpe that Kearsey believes that the gold belongs to the Spanish and should only be returned to them, which are not Sharpe's orders
Kearsey is captured by the French and Sharpe decides to go into the town and liberate him and ascertain the location of the gold. They succeed though suffer some losses in personnel but succeed in freeing not only Kearsey, but also Teresa Moreno and her brother Ramon who were to be tortured by the French.
The Spanish guerillas soon enter the town. El Catolico is intensely suspicious of Sharpe being so far behind the French lines and correctly suspects the British desire the gold. A confrontation ensues where El Catolico claims there is no Gold and the French took it
Lieutenant Sharpe and his men head back to the village find the gold hidden, but end up in a confrontation with El Catolico and Kearsey. Sharpe escapes by kidnapping Teresa and taking her hostage.
Sharpe perused by the Spanish, the French, with a pretty woman he is falling for as hostage has to make it back to friendly territory
