Bernard Cornwell - Author
Bernard Cornwell was born in 1944 to a mother
who was in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force and a Canadian Airman stationed in the UK during the war.
Like many other war babies he was adopted in this case by the Wiggins family, part of a christian religious group called the Peculiar People who
were a very strict fundamentalist offshoot of weslyan Church.
This religious upbringing didn't seem to resonate with young Bernard and whilst at London University he had a conversion experience and rejected the faith he was raised with. Since this point Bernard seems to of been at least skeptical of issues of faith but remains well informed, writing about issues of faith with some degree of comfort and panache.
Bernard first becoming a teacher, then a TV Researcher and then finally a Journalist. Whilst working for the BBC he met his wife Judy got married and followed her back to the states when they decided she could not move to England for family reasons. It wasn't until he was in America without a green card did Bernard Actually turn his hand to serious novel writing.
Bernard then started writing his first novels in 1980, and two were published in 1981 and a further one in 1983. Since that point he has written over 20 Sharpe Novels and over 25 other novels. He has also been noted to claim that writing beats working for a living. Which may be true, but may not endear him to other authors.
Bernard still lives with his wife Judy, in Cape Cod in the USA. He is main hobby seems to be sailing and he spends a good portion of his summer on board his yacht.
